Burlap is a thick, rough cloth, usually made from or a similar plant fibre. It feels scratchy, not soft, and you can see the weave. For a long time it was the cheap cloth of sacks: coffee, potatoes, and grain travelled in burlap bags. still wrap roots in it when they move a plant, and some shops and weddings now use it for a rustic look. You would not make a comfortable shirt out of it; it is for bags, wrapping, and rough work. In British English the same kind of cloth is often called . The American word burlap is the one you will see on craft sites and in US shops.
