Bunraku is a Japanese art of puppet theatre. The puppets are large, almost like small people, and usually three puppeteers in black clothes move one puppet together: one the head and right hand, one the left hand, one the legs. There is music, and a singer who tells the story. It is serious theatre, not a children's toy show with little dolls on strings. The name came into English from Japanese. Though actually, it is a different craft from marionettes (puppets on strings) and a different craft from Taiwan's budaixi, which uses smaller glove puppets on one hand.
