A bunion is a painful bony lump at the first joint of your big toe, where the toe meets the foot. The joint sticks out to the side, often because the big toe leans in toward the other toes. Tight shoes and high heels make it worse, and it can hurt to walk or to wear certain shoes. It is a body word: a bit medical, but also everyday — people say I've got a bunion the way they say I've got a bad knee. Though actually, in loose talk some people call any sore bump on the foot a bunion. Doctors mean this one joint, not a (water under the skin) and not a corn (a patch of hard skin).

組成It does not split in modern English. It comes from an older word bunny meaning a lump or swelling, from Middle English bony, boni. That goes back to Old French bugne, buigne, “a bump”, probably from Old Norse bunga (“a bulge”) or Frankish, both from a Germanic word for a lump.
