Bulimia is an illness of eating and weight. A person with bulimia has times when they cannot stop eating a very large amount of food (people call this bingeing), and then they try to undo it — often by making themselves vomit, sometimes with medicine that empties the bowels, or by exercising far too much — because they are afraid of gaining weight.
