Bulgaria is a country in southeast Europe, on the Black Sea. Romania is to the north and Turkey is to the south; though actually it also shares borders with Greece, Serbia, and North Macedonia. The capital is Sofia. Bulgaria joined the European Union in 2007. In 2014 the population was given as about seven million; the number has been falling since, as many people have moved away to work. The people and the language are called Bulgarian.
