A buffalo is a large, strong wild animal with horns, related to cattle — in America, usually the animal also called a 'bison', with shaggy brown fur; in Asia and Africa, 'buffalo' refers to a different, related animal often used for farm work (the water buffalo). 'Buffalo' is also a city in New York State, famous for 'buffalo wings' — spicy chicken wings invented there, not made from buffalo meat.
