Budweiser is a well-known American beer: a light-coloured lager you see in bars, shops, and sports ads across the United States. People often shorten it to Bud. The name is German in shape and means from Budweis, an old German name for a city now called České Budějovice in the Czech Republic, where beer-making is older than the American brand. Though actually that has caused a long fight: a Czech brewery also uses a Budweiser name, and in some countries the American beer cannot use it. In Taiwan, the American one is the one most people mean. It is everyday beer, not a fancy drink; some beer lovers call it plain, but the name is famous worldwide.
