BSkyB is short for British Sky Broadcasting. For years this was the company name behind Sky TV — the big British satellite television company that sells sports, films, and news channels you pay for. Business pages and the stock market said BSkyB; people on the sofa just said Sky. The old letters were later dropped, and the company is now usually called Sky, so you will meet BSkyB mainly in older newspapers and in company history. It is commercial television, not the BBC (the BBC is public and does not live behind a satellite subscription). If a British friend says a match is 'on Sky,' this is the family of companies they mean.
