BSI is a British organisation whose job is to write the rules for how things should be made, measured, and sold as safe in Britain. That covers boring-but-important stuff: how long a millimetre is, what a 'size 12' dress should mean, and whether a plug, a kettle, or a child's toy is safe enough to put in a shop. When a product carries a BSI kitemark (a little kite-shaped stamp), it has been checked against those rules. BSI is official and serious, but it is not a government ministry and not a shop — it is the standards body. Engineers, factories, and safety inspectors talk about it all the time; ordinary people mostly meet it as a mark on a label. Outside Britain, people more often mention ISO (world standards). BSI is the British cousin of that idea.
