If you are brooding, you are thinking again and again about something that worries or upsets you, often without saying anything about it out loud. People also use 'brooding' to describe a face or manner that looks serious, quiet, and a little dark or angry, even if the person hasn't explained why. A sky or a place can be called 'brooding' too, meaning it feels heavy and dark, like something bad might happen.
