When we say someone looks bronzed, we mean their skin has turned a warm, pretty brown because they have been out in the sun. It is not : is red and it hurts. Bronzed is the good colour — the kind you see in holiday photos, when someone’s face and arms look golden-brown and well. People also say tanned, and that is the everyday word. Bronzed feels a little more like a magazine or a story; it makes the colour sound beautiful, not just dark. You will hear it about people after a beach week, and sometimes about a look someone is trying to get with cream or makeup, though actually that is copying the sun, not the sun itself. The word comes from bronze, the brown-gold metal, so bronzed skin is skin that has taken on that metal’s colour.
