Broadloom is carpet woven in one very wide piece, so a room can be covered with few joins, or even none. The other choice is small squares or narrow strips that you fit together. Shops still say broadloom when they mean wall-to-wall carpet sold on a roll, often about four metres wide. It is a trade word: you meet it in carpet shops and building work, not in stories.
