Broadcasting is the business of making television and radio programmes and sending them out to many people at once. A broadcasting company runs channels; broadcasting can also mean the work itself — news, drama, sport, . Though actually, the old picture is a tall mast throwing a signal through the air to every radio and TV in the country. Today a lot of ‘TV’ arrives by cable, satellite, or the internet, so the line between broadcasting and streaming is getting blurry. People still use broadcasting for the traditional TV-and-radio industry, and for the craft of speaking to an unseen audience. The related verb is broadcast (to send a programme out); a broadcaster is a person or a company that does that work. Do not hear only ‘radio’: in this sense the word covers television too.
