A brewer is a person whose work is making beer, or a company that makes beer. You can say “she is a brewer,” “a family of brewers,” or “a big brewer” for a beer company. It is a normal, slightly old-work word; craft brewer is the newer, smaller-scale version. Though actually it is only beer (and sometimes similar drinks made the same way). A person who makes wine is not a brewer, and a person who makes strong spirits is a . Brewer’s yeast is the yeast those people use. The word sits in everyday talk about jobs and companies, not only in specialist books.
