Breadfruit is a large, round, green tropical fruit. When it is cooked, the inside is pale and starchy, a bit like bread, which is how it got the name. It grows on a tall tree in hot places such as the Pacific islands and the Caribbean. It is not a sweet fruit you eat like an apple; people cook it as filling food, more like potato or bread. The English name copies an older scientific name that also meant bread-fruit.
麵包果
