    Brandy is a strong alcoholic drink made from wine. Makers heat the wine in a still until the drink becomes much stronger than ordinary wine; that is why the old name meant “burnt wine.” People often drink it in a small glass after a meal. The word can mean the drink in general, or one glass of it: “Would you like a brandy?” is brandy from one part of France, but brandy is also made in Spain, Armenia, and many other places — so not every brandy is . It is an ordinary word; a little grown-up, because the drink is strong.
