A bramble is a wild blackberry bush: a messy, scratchy plant with long arching stems, sharp thorns, and, in season, dark berries. In British English especially, people also say brambles for the berries themselves, and for a tangle of such bushes in a hedge or at the edge of a field. The plant grabs at clothes and skin; that is why the word can feel a little wild and , not like a garden rose. Other thorny wild bushes sometimes get called brambles too, but the core picture is the wild blackberry. You will not meet this plant much on a street; it belongs to countryside English, hiking paths, and stories about getting scratched while picking fruit.
組成From Middle English brembel, Old English bræmbel / brēmel. It was a smaller-form of an old plant name that became English broom (the shrub, not at first the sweeping tool).
