Brainless means completely stupid: acting as if you have no brain at all — not a small slip, but something a person would not do if they had used their head. Informal, and if you say it about a person. We also use it of actions, ideas, and rules: a brainless mistake, a brainless rule. It is stronger than silly and close to stupid. A kind teacher almost never calls a student brainless. Younger speakers, especially online, use it the way speakers use 無腦. Though actually, we often put it on a moment (“that was brainless”) rather than on a whole human being, and that is a little kinder. The word is almost always figurative; it does not mean a body with the brain taken out.
組成From Middle English braynles; equivalent to brain + -less. Brain is the thinking organ; -less means without it.
