Water that is brackish is not fresh river water and not as salty as the open sea. It is slightly salty — the kind of water you find where a river meets the sea, in a lagoon, or in a marsh. You would not want to drink much of it. People use brackish about water and about that faint salt taste; they do not usually use it about food in general. It does not mean the water is dirty. It can look clear and still be brackish.

組成brack + -ish. Brack is an old Scottish word for this slightly salty water, from Middle Dutch brac. The -ish means 'somewhat that way'.
