Bracken is a kind of . It grows in woods, on hills, and on open land, often in thick, spreading patches. In summer it is green and tall; in autumn it turns brown, which is how many people picture it. It is not a tree and it has no flowers. The big leaves look a bit like feathers. In some places people eat the young shoots, but on farms the plant can be a problem because it spreads and is not good for animals.

組成The word does not split. It comes from Middle English braken, probably from Old Norse for undergrowth. Danish bregne and Swedish bräken still mean fern.
