When air or weather is bracing, it is cold — but in a good way. It wakes you up. You step outside, the wind is sharp, your face feels clean, and you feel well and alive, not miserable. People say this about sea air, autumn mornings, and mountain wind. It is not simply 'cold' and it is not a storm. The feeling is healthy and alert, as if the cold has sat you up straight.
