Your bowels are the long tubes inside your body that food passes through after your stomach - basically your . Doctors talk about "bowel movements" (going to the toilet) and "bowel problems" ( issues). The word is also used, in an old-fashioned or poetic way, for the deepest inside part of something big - like "the bowels of the earth" (deep underground) or "the bowels of a ship" (deep inside it).
