A boudoir is a woman’s private room — historically a bedroom, or a small sitting room next to it, where she could dress, receive a close friend, or simply be alone. The French verb bouder means “to sulk” or “to pout”; the room was, in the old joke of the word, somewhere to go and sulk. In English it sounds fancy, a little old-fashioned, and a little French on purpose. You would not call a teenager’s messy bedroom a boudoir unless you were teasing. Advertisements still use it for soft, private, slightly glamorous spaces, and boudoir photography means intimate portraits, often in that private-room mood. It is not a general word for any bedroom.
組成Borrowed from French boudoir, from bouder (“to sulk”), of Germanic origin. So the room was, in the word’s own joke, a place to go and sulk.
