To bottle-feed a baby or a young animal is to give them milk from a bottle, instead of feeding from the mother’s breast. Parents bottle-feed with formula, or sometimes with milk that was expressed first and put in the bottle. Farmers bottle-feed lambs and when the mother is ill, has died, or has too many young to feed. The verb is bottle-feed, bottle-feeds, bottle-fed, bottle-feeding. Though actually, in parenting talk this word almost always travels with its opposite, breastfeed; people use the pair to name two different ways of giving milk, not to judge them.
