A bordello is a house where men pay to have sex with the people who work there. It means the same kind of place as , but bordello sounds more literary, foreign, or like something in a film; newspapers and ordinary talk in English usually say . You would not use it as a joke about a messy house, and it is not a person's name. It is a slightly dressed-up word for a place many people would rather not name directly.

組成Borrowed from Italian bordello. The Italian ending -ello is a small-size ending. It is a doublet of the older, rarer English/French word bordel. Dictionaries also tie it, a long way back, to the same ancient root as brothel, but that link is distant — you cannot see it in the spelling.
