A bora is a strong, cold wind that blows down from mountains toward the sea, most across the Adriatic Sea near Croatia and Italy. It can start very suddenly and blow very hard, so sailors there watch out for it. Scientists also use 'bora' as a general name for this type of cold, mountain-to-sea wind anywhere in the world, not only in Europe.

組成The name is thought to come from an old local word for the cold north wind, possibly related to the Greek god Boreas — though this history is not fully certain.
