Bogotá is the capital city of Colombia. It sits high in the mountains, in the east of the country, on a high flat piece of land. It is near the , but because it is so high up the air is cooler than you might guess. English speakers usually say boh-guh-TAH. The name came into English from Spanish Bogotá, and Spanish took it from Chibcha, the language of the Muisca people who lived there before the Spanish arrived. In writing you keep the accent on the á when you can: Bogotá.
