Boeing is a big American company that makes aeroplanes. When people say “a Boeing,” they usually mean a passenger plane from that company — a 737 for shorter trips, or a 747, the old “jumbo jet.” Airlines all over the world fly them. In Taiwan you will see Boeing planes next to Airbus planes; those two companies make most of the big passenger aircraft you sit in. The name is just a family name: William Boeing started the firm, and Boeing is the English spelling of the German surname Böing. You say it BOH-ing, two beats, heavier on the first. Write it with a capital B. People use it for the company (“Boeing built this”) and for the plane (“We flew on a Boeing 777”). They also make military planes and spacecraft, though actually most learners only need the passenger-plane meaning.
