A bodge is a job: a repair or a piece of work that is not as good as it should be, often because someone rushed or used the wrong stuff. British people say it a lot. 'That's a bit of a bodge' means it sort of works, but you can see the mess. You can also bodge something, as a verb: you patch it up in a hurry. It is informal, a little blunt, and very British; American speakers are more likely to say botch. It is not a high swear word, but you would not put it in a school essay unless you were quoting. Though actually, a bodge is not always a total failure — sometimes it is the wonky fix that still holds until you can do it properly.

組成Inherited from Middle English bocchen, 'to mend, patch up'. Scholars are not sure of the next step back: perhaps from a Middle Dutch word for striking or patching, perhaps from an old English word for making better. It sits beside botch, which means almost the same. Nobody has a tidy last word on this.
