Boating is going out in a small boat for pleasure — not a ferry to work, and not a fishing job, but time on the water because you enjoy it. It can mean , , a small motor boat, or a quiet day on the lake. As a noun it names the activity: Do you like boating? You will also meet it as the -ing form of the verb boat: They are boating on the lake. It feels like free time, a little old-fashioned in some British English (Sunday afternoon boating), but people still use it.
