    If the day is blowy, the wind is up. It is an informal, word, more British than American — the sort of thing you say as you open the door: "It's a bit blowy out." It does not mean a storm, only that the air is moving enough to pull at coats and washing. Weather chat and older everyday speech use it more than textbooks do. Though actually, many never meet it at all. They will know windy first; blowy is just a softer, spoken way to say the same thing, as if the wind were busy blowing.
