To bloviate is to speak or write for too long, in words that are too long and too formal, as if you were giving a grand speech when a few plain sentences would do. Some dictionaries pin it to blogs, and people do use it that way now — a post that goes on and on. Though actually the word is much older than the internet: it is American, from the 1800s, built to sound mock-fancy, and it still lives in talk about and public windbags. It is critical and a bit , not a neutral school word.
組成blow (to speak idly, to boast) + -i- + -ate, made to sound like a Latin-style verb such as deviate.
