If your eyes are bloodshot, the parts that are normally white look red or pink. Tiny blood vessels in the eye have filled or broken, so the white is streaked with red. Tiredness, smoke, crying, pool , allergies, illness, or too much alcohol can all do it. The word describes eyes, not cheeks, not clothes, not a wound. It is an ordinary describing word — not rude, and not doctors’ Latin. A person can have one bloodshot eye or both.

組成From blood + shot. Shot here is an old use meaning streaked or filled through — as if blood has been driven into the white of the eye. It is not about guns.
