Blood-red names a dark, strong red — the red of fresh blood, not a light pink and not an orange-red. People put it on things that look like that: a blood-red sky, a blood-red coat, blood-red flowers. It is usually written with a . The word feels a little dramatic or literary; in a shop you might just say dark red. It only talks about colour. It does not mean “covered in blood” (that is bloody), and it is not the British swear-word bloody either.
