The bleachers are the long, simple benches stacked in rows at a sports ground, where you sit to watch the game. In American English this is the ordinary word; the seats are often uncovered, so you sit in the sun or the rain, and they used to be wood. They are the cheaper, louder part of the crowd — not the padded seats under a roof. People say the bleachers (almost always plural) and sit in the bleachers. In baseball they are famous; you will also hear bleacher seats and bleacher fans. British English usually says stands instead. The name almost certainly comes from bleach: those boards live in the sun and go pale, like cloth left out to bleach.
