A blackspot is not a black mark on your shirt. In British English it is a place where the same kind of trouble keeps happening, more than in the places around it. The oldest everyday use is the road: an accident blackspot is a bend, a crossing, or a stretch of road where crashes happen again and again. Police and newspapers keep lists of them. People then stretched the word. A crime blackspot is an area with more theft or fighting than nearby streets. An unemployment blackspot is a town where many people cannot find work. You may even hear it for a part of a company or a product that keeps causing complaints — though actually the heart of the word is still a place on a map. It is ordinary news language in Britain, not slang, and not very American; in the US you are more likely to hear hotspot or trouble spot. The “black” is the old idea of something dark and unlucky, not a colour you can see.
