Blackpool is a town on the northwest coast of England, by the sea. For a long time it was the classic seaside holiday place for working-class families — a beach, cheap day trips, a promenade, and a tall tower you can see from far away (Blackpool Tower). At night in autumn the seafront is covered in coloured lights; people call that the Illuminations. The town also has a big conference centre, and British political parties have often held their yearly meetings there. It is a place name, so you give it a capital B. In Britain the name carries a whole holiday mood: sweets, rides, hen parties, and a slightly old-fashioned seaside glamour. It does not mean any black pool of water.
