Bitcoin is a kind of money that lives on the internet. No government prints it. Computers keep a shared list of who has what, and people can send it to each other without a bank in the middle. The name was built from bit — here the computer bit, a tiny piece of digital information — plus coin. It was coined by someone, or some people, using the name Satoshi Nakamoto, which is almost certainly a made-up name, in 2008: first in the website bitcoin.org, then in a paper called “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System.” People also say BTC. The price jumps up and down a lot, so some use it to pay and others treat it like a thing to bet on. The English name is the same around the world; in daily talk in Taiwan you will hear the Chinese name more.
組成From bit (“binary digit,” a tiny piece of computer information) + coin. Named in 2008 by Satoshi Nakamoto, almost certainly a made-up name for one person or more.
