Biodynamic describes a special kind of organic farming and gardening. It treats the farm as one living system — plants, animals, and soil working together — and it is tied to a spiritual view of nature. Farmers may follow a planting calendar, and they use special preparations on the soil. It is stronger than just organic. Organic means, among other things, avoiding synthetic ; biodynamic adds this whole-system, spiritual layer. You meet the word on some food labels and among , not in everyday chat. Though actually, many scientists say the extra spiritual rules have not been shown to work in the ordinary scientific way. Farmers who love it still talk about rich soil and careful animal care. Do not use biodynamic to mean “very lively”, “high-energy biology”, or “organic, but cooler” — that looser use is something people invent. In this word it names one specific school of farming.
