The BFI is the British Film Institute, a British organisation started in 1933 to encourage people to make films and to help people watch and study them. It looks after a huge collection of old films so they are not lost, and it includes a famous cinema in London that used to be called the National Film Theatre. You will meet the name in film studies, in news about restored movies, and on posters in London. It is not a Hollywood studio; it is more about British film, history, and teaching. Though actually, for many students it is as much an archive and a library as it is a place to sit in the dark and watch a film.
