組成Borrowed from Old Norse berserkr, a warrior who fought in a frenzy, probably from bjǫrn (“bear”) + serkr (“coat, shirt”), for the bearskins those warriors wore. Bjǫrn may go back to an old root meaning “brown”; serkr to a root meaning “to bind, tie; thread.” Some people once said the first part was berr (“bare, naked”), for fighters with no armour, but that is now thought unlikely. The describing word in English comes from that noun. Doublet of berserker.
