Bermuda is a small group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean, far to the east of the United States. People go there on holiday for the sea and the beaches. It belongs to Britain and has its own local government. Older books call it a colony; today people usually say it still belongs to Britain but runs most of its own daily life — it is not an independent country, and it is not run like a piece of England either. The capital is Hamilton. Though actually Bermuda is not in the Caribbean, even if holiday pictures make it look that way; it sits farther north, alone in the Atlantic. English also uses the name in Bermuda shorts (longer shorts) and the Bermuda Triangle (a patch of sea people tell mystery stories about).
