BEng is short for Bachelor of Engineering. It is a first university degree in engineering — the undergraduate one, usually three or four years, not a master’s. You often see it after a name: Mei Chen, BEng. It is especially at home in Britain, Ireland, Australia and other places that use that naming. In the United States people more often say a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S. or similar). Though actually, some universities also offer an MEng, a longer or higher engineering degree; that is not the same piece of paper. BEng is the name of the qualification, not a job title and not a person. It does not mean the holder is still “being” an engineer in some special grammar sense; it only names the degree.
