If someone is beefy, they are big and strong, with a thick body — muscle, but often a bit heavy too, not a thin runner’s body. It is informal and a little blunt: you are talking about how the person looks, as if they were a big piece of beef. Friends might say it with a grin. It can feel if you say it about someone who does not want to hear they look heavy. Though actually, people also use beefy about things, not only bodies: a beefy phone is thick and solid; a beefy engine is powerful. In this meaning, though, it is the person.
