1. 1

A Beefeater is one of the traditional guards at the Tower of London. They wear a bright red uniform from a long time ago, and they often show visitors around. Their official name is Yeoman Warder, but almost everybody — especially tourists — calls them Beefeaters. You write it with a capital B when you mean these guards. The name is simply beef plus , “someone who eats beef,” but nobody uses it that way in ordinary talk; it is an old nickname that stuck. The word feels British, historical, and a bit touristy. Though actually, there is also a gin called Beefeater, named after the same guards — that is a brand, not this meaning.

    倫敦塔守衛(英王衛士)。台灣更常聽到的「必富達」是琴酒品牌,不是這個意思。
