Beefcake is an informal, slightly word for a man with a big, strong, muscular body — the kind of man you might see on an old calendar or magazine cover, shirt off, looking proud of his muscles. It can mean the man himself, or a photo of him meant to look sexy. Magazines used to sell beefcake pictures of men the same way they sold cheesecake pictures of young women; the word was built to match that older photo-word. It is not a doctor's word and not a polite dinner-table word. You hear it more from older speakers, or when someone is teasing. It treats the man as a body to look at. Though actually, it has nothing to do with food at all — there is no cake, and no beef on a plate.
