A bedsit is a rented room that you both live in and sleep in — bed, chair, and often a tiny sharing one space. It is strongly British. Students, new workers, and people short of money have long used bedsits; the bathroom is often down the hall and shared. The word can sound small and a bit , though some bedsits are fine. Americans usually say studio for a one-room flat with its own bathroom; a British bedsit is often even simpler than that. You may also meet bedsitter, an older form of the same idea. It is not a hotel room and not a bedroom inside a family house — it is a rented one-room home.
