Your bedside is the area right beside your bed. The word turns up most when someone is ill: family sit at the bedside, a doctor is called to the bedside, you keep water and medicine at the bedside. A bedside table is the small table in that spot. The feeling is close, watchful, and often worried — not just “next to the furniture”, but next to the person in the bed. Though actually English also stretches it in bedside manner, the gentle way a doctor talks to a patient; that is still the same bedside, now standing for the care you give there. Do not mix it up with besides, which means “also” or “apart from”.
