A bead is a small, round piece of glass, wood, plastic, or stone with a hole through the middle, so you can put many of them on a string to make jewelry, like a necklace or bracelet. Beyond jewelry, English also uses 'bead' for any small, round drop of liquid that looks like a bead — 'a bead of sweat', 'beads of water on a cold glass'. The connecting idea is always the same: small, round, and shiny.
