A bazooka is a long, light gun that a soldier rests on one shoulder and uses to shoot at tanks. It is not a rifle that a small metal bullet; the tube is there to send a heavier rocket a short way. The word became famous in the Second World War. In everyday English people also stretch it: they call something a bazooka when they mean a huge, blunt tool brought out after small measures have failed. In money news, leaders have talked about a “bazooka” when they mean a very big rescue of cash. That money use is a picture taken from the weapon, not a second machine — the thing you are learning here is still the shoulder gun.
組成From an extension of older slang bazoo, meaning the mouth, or boastful talk. That word probably comes from Dutch bazuin, a trumpet. The weapon got a loud, showy name, as if it were a big mouth that shouts fire.
